BEAUTY: Favourite Skincare of 2013

FAVOURITE CLEANSERS | I tried to pick one, I really did, but just couldn’t bring myself to do it. One cleanser I do use religiously every night I’m at home is the wonderful Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm and, as you can see from the photo, I’m nearly to the end of the tub. Despite every day use, it’s lasted me a good six months, which I think is pretty darn amazing.

The Sensai by Kanebo Silky Purifying Cleansing Oil smells like a dream and really works to remove all eye makeup, making it a great first cleanse on a nighttime. I’ve really been enjoying using it and I’ll be sad when I run out!

Of course, I had to include one of my favourite skincare brands throughout this post and REN Rosa Centifolia No.1 Purity Cleansing Balm is first. It’s a much thicker balm than the Emma Hardie one, but leaves skin so soft and smooth, making it a must have – especially for pamper nights!

FAVOURITE MOISTURISERS AND EYE CREAMS | Did you know I used to never use a moisturiser during the day? How gross is that? I wish I could have had a word with teenage me and told her to sort her skincare out. Now, I couldn’t live without my daytime (and nighttime) dose of moisture to make my skin feel hydrated and soothed.

I love the entire Balance Me range, but the Balance Me Moisture Rich Face Cream has been working wonders with my skin when I need something a bit heavier than their Balancing Moisturiser. It sinks in fast and works well with any makeup applied ontop.

If my skin is in need of a serious drink, I slap on a bit of facial oil and apply REN Vita Mineral Emollient Rescue Cream which instantly soothes dry skin. It’s a really thick, almost balm-like, moisturiser that does take overnight to sink in but leaves you with lovely skin in the morning!

HealGel Face has been a little skincare saviour this year, especially in summer and when my skin doesn’t need a huge dose of moisture. This light, yet hydrating, moisturiser works so well and really boosts any serums used underneath too!

Finally, Kiehl’s Line Reducing Eye-Brightening Concentrate is my number one eye cream. I really notice a difference when I don’t use it, and while it doesn’t rid me of my dark circles (nothing will wahh), it does make them look less harsh!

FAVOURITE TREATMENTS | I don’t feel like I’ve completed my skincare unless I’ve used a treatment, serum or oil on a nighttime. My skin just doesn’t feel right without it and I feel like I’ve ‘wasted’ a night which could have made my skin look better. Strange, I know, but it’s just how I think since I started introducing more steps to my regime.

For brightening skin, I always use Kiehl’s Powerful Strength Line Reducing Concentrate which uses vitamin c to boost your skins clarity. My skin always looks smooth and bright after using it, especially when combined with Yon-Ka Phyto 58, which is a brightening treatment/moisturiser. During the day I go for Apivita Radiance Serum, as it’s light enough to go under daytime moisturiser but really evens out your skin.

If my skin is breaking out, I immediately opt for Balance Me Radiance Face Oil. I could rant on about this little beauty of a product all day, but my main point would be: just buy it. You won’t regret it. I thought I’d lost mine before and my skin genuinely suffered because I wasn’t using it. It heals up blemishes, hydrates skin and is just an all round great product!

Finally, if I’m not using Alpha H Liquid Gold then I’ll use REN Resurfacing AHA Concentrate. It’s a chemical exfoliator which buffs away dead skin cells overnight, revealing more glowing and smooth skin. The term ‘chemical exfoliator’ may sound terrifying, but it’s the best thing I’ve done for my skin!

FAVOURITE MASKS | So, masks are like totally my thang. I adore them and wouldn’t be without them in my routine, even if I only manage to use one once a week. There’s three types I use: deep cleansing, exfoliating and hydrating, and which one (or two) I use depends entirely on my skin that day.

For deep cleansing, my no.1 favourite mask is REN Invisible Pores Detox Mask. This is approximately my third tube of this miracle mask and I haven’t found anything that has quite the same effect on my skin! Once you wash it off, it just makes your skin look so clear! For exfoliating, I am quite partial to using REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask. It just seems to work so well with whatever nighttime skincare I use after, leaving me with radiant skin the next day. I’d definitely recommend it, plus the tube lasts forever! Finally, for hydrating I’ll either use First Aid Beauty Oatmeal Mask, Antipodes Aura Mask or the one above, which is The Body Shop Honey & Oat Mask. It smells really lovely and, although it feels so strange on the skin as it’s quite thick, it leaves skin so soft and hydrated!

So that’s all the skincare I’ve been loving throughout 2013! It’s my aim to include a lot more skincare on the blog, so I’ll be probably be buying some new bits and bobs throughout the year to share with you all.
