The Base Combo: Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation and Illamasqua Hydra Veil

As I’m constantly on the hunt for the ‘perfect base’, it’s only right that I added these two to my collection and I’m so glad I did. As a bit of background, I tend to go for medium-full coverage foundations as my blemishes are a-plenty and I’d rather not see them on a daily basis. My skin is often dehydrated and dull so if I’m opting for a primer, radiance or hydrating numbers seem to find their way to my visage. And so the need for the above seems pretty obvious, no?

Starting with the base, the Illamasqua Hydra Veil primer is certainly the most unique one in my collection. As you can see from the second picture, it has quite a liquid consistency that looks a little like jelly, but completely reforms into a more solid state when placed back in the container. It’s odd, but definitely one to try out to know what I mean. Using only a small amount, it applies like a serum to skin and a little goes quite a long way meaning the tub will last for ages. The Illamasqua Hydra Veil definitely does what it says on the tin, making foundation last longer, skin looks more plump and less dull when using it and it’s just a wonderful product to use if you have to wear foundation for 8hrs a day.

Speaking of foundation, the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation is a new release from the amazing makeup artist. Can we mention the packaging first? I love the rose gold top and the sleek, slightly vintage style! Her makeup always looks gorgeous. Anyway, the foundation itself is medium-full coverage with a satin, natural looking finish. It lasts all day on my skin, around 8hrs, but it can stretch to longer with a little powder after a few hours. It’s a thicker formula than some liquids, but blends like a dream and really is quite magic in terms of making my skin look nice when it really is a blemish-filled mess. Cheers CT, appreciate it.

So, the combination of a hydrating base with a creamy textured full coverage foundation is quite something. It’s not heavy and doesn’t look cakey, instead it offers a more flawless finish when buffed in – a definite winning base combination!
