BEAUTY: The Best Chemical Exfoliators

I’m a big fan of chemical exfoliators and totally prefer them to physical ones these days because they feel less harsh. A chemical, not being harsh you say? Yup. Some of these are perfectly gentle on your skin and better than scrubbing at it with harsh crystals and peach kernels (shudder). So, I thought I’d break down my top four chemical and AHA exfoliators that get rid of dead skin cells and leave your skin radiant and glowing!

Starting with the overnight wonders, the classic has to be Alpha H Liquid Gold. This has been raved about on blogs etc for ages now and it’s well worth the hype. It’s the only thing that gets rid of old blemish scars and makes my skin more even! Seriously if you’ve got any marks left from spots, buy this stuff. It smells a bit err chemically, but it’s really effective (even on my sensitive skin) when used around 2x per week. Just drop onto a cotton pad and sweep around your face, then sleep and you’ll wake up to glowing skin!

Another favourite is the REN AHA Resurfacing Concentrate. This can be applied with your hands and you only need a few drops as it’s quite liquidy. I find this to be more gentle than the Liquid Gold, so it has more of an effect with regular use instead of an instant wow. It still makes skin look refreshed though!

Finally on the overnight spectrum, the Kiehl’s Over-Night Biological Peel feels more like a serum on application as it’s thicker. You need around one pump to cover your whole face, which means the bottle will last you quite a long time! I like to use this as a step before brightening moisturiser to give dull skin a boost!

If you just want a quick radiance boost, the Jurlique Fruit Enzyme Exfoliator is something you just pop on for 10 minutes and rinse off. It’s ideal as a step on a pamper evening when you’re applying some masks or as a step before a night out to make your makeup sit perfectly. It uses fruit acids to buff away dead skin cells and to even your skin, plus you need so little of it!
