BEAUTY: How To Cover Dark Circles

As a long term sufferer of good ol’ dark circles (we know, Helen, stop telling us) I thought I’d share my ultimate tips on how to help cover them up. When I don’t follow this routine, they get so much worse so I know it works a treat!

Starting with the basics: drink lots of water! Get your two litres a day and you’ll definitely notice a difference, I know I certainly do! It genuinely lightens dark circles and it’s fantastic for you overall, really. Now you’ve got that out of the way, get yourself a good eye cream. My all time favourite it the Zelens Triple Action Eye Cream, but is is quite pricey. Great alternatives are the Benefit It’s Potent! Eye Cream and the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate Eye Cream. Apply a rice grain sized amount to each eye with your ring finger, sweeping from the outside in underneath and apply above too.

As skincare isn’t always enough for those with heavier darkness, get yourself some heavy duty concealers. These don’t have to be cakey, you just have to apply them in the right way. Once you’ve moisturised, apply the amazing Bobbi Brown Corrector underneath the eyes. This has a peachy tone to help counteract the blue hue that dark circles have and brightens the eye area. It’s my holy grail! Once that’s blended in, use something like the Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer to actually conceal the dark areas and make that area more skin toned. Good alternatives are the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer and Seventeen Phwoarr Paint. Apply it all with fingers, as the warmth from your fingers helps cream products and lightly buff in the edges with a fluffy brush!

If you have really heavy dark circles, go for a small amount of liquid concealer (such as Dior DiorSkin Nude Concealer) over the cream ones previously applied. This helps the area not look heavy and adds a layer of extra concealer too, as it seems to blend everything out. You can set everything with a very light dusting of powder once you’re done to blend everything further and to help it stay put.

Finally, because you want to lighten that area as much as possible, I always use a nude or flesh coloured pencil on my waterline to make my eyes look more awake The Sigma Inner Rim Brightener does the job well and applying a champagne eyeshadow shade to the inner corner of your eye works wonders too!

What do you do to help your dark circles?
