BEAUTY: A Lip Pencil Addiction

Lip pencils are such a regular feature in my makeup bag these days. They’re just so easy to apply and brands, both high end and low, are releasing their own versions which is great as they’re accessible no matter what your budget. I realised the other day that I’d amassed quite a collection of them, so will narrow it down to the top three brands whose lip pencils I adore.

First up had to be NARS, didn’t it? They’re my favourite makeup brand and their lip pencils fit firmly in the one of my favourites of all time category. I honestly wish I owned them all… Anyway, they come in three different finishes: velvet matte, satin and velvet gloss. I’ve only tried the first two, as a glossy lip doesn’t do me any favours, but the shades I have tick all the right boxes. The satin formula is hydrating on the lips with great colour pay off and the matte, although a tiny bit more drying, has some of the most intense shades!
My favourite matte one has to be NARS Matte Velvet Lip Pencil in Red Square, as it’s the perfect bright red-orange. As for satin, my top picks are NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Lodhi (a bright coral), Majella (my favourite red), Luxembourg (a bright blue-pink), Biscayne Park (the most perfect nude ever) and Palais Royal (the best A/W berry).

I’ve chosen two options from the high street and first up is Topshop. It’s no secret that I adore Topshop makeup and it takes up a good chunk of my collection, as the quality is amazing for the price. Their lipsticks in general are fantastic, but I especially love their lip crayons. They don’t seem to have these on their site anymore, which is a shame, but you might be able to get them in stores! Another, and similar, thing I love from Topshop is their Lip Bullets, as they have an amazing formula!

Finally, I love the Revlon Colourburst Matte Balms. Although I’m not too keen on the minty scent, the product themselves are pretty darn good. They’re always on offer in boots too, which is a bonus! They come in a great array of colours, from nudes to brights, and the matte finish is great on the lips. I really like wearing these as they’re a an ideal throw-in-your-bag kind of lip product. The shades I have are Elusive (a rose-pink-nude kind of thing), Striking (a bright red) and Showy (a bright blue-pink).

Do you have a favourite lip pencil? Let me know if you use any of these!
