Hello! So Valentines Day is heading our way and, although I wear red lipstick at least three times a week, it got me searching through my stash for everything vaguely the-colour-of-love themed. Now, as I wear red quite a lot, I’m rather picky when it comes to my all time favourites (I did include six of them in this old post) so I’ve rounded up the shades that I personally think work best and are prefect for Valentines Day.
Staring with a classic MAC shade, MAC Red is my go to when I just don’t know what colour to wear. As it’s slightly more pink toned, as opposed to the blue-toned MAC Russian Red, it warms up your complexion slightly and just looks lovely on. As is typical with the MAC formula, it’s strongly pigmented, long lasting and not too drying! Perfect.
Along that line, if you tend to find lipsticks quite drying in general then definitely try this YSL Rouge Volupte in Red Muse (no.17). It’s a very creamy but highly pigmented finish, so it feels more balmy than some other lipsticks. It lasts quite a while too, so you won’t have to worry about reapplying too often!
Another balmy product, and current blogger favourite, has to be the new Revlon Colourburst Matte Balm in Striking. They are really good and quite worth the hype (just with the colour range was a bit more varied) but for a neutral, bright toned red this one is the perfect option! It wears well and is easy to apply with it being like a crayon, perfect to slick on and go!
But, if you don’t want to reapply at all, check out Maybelline Super Stay 24 Colour in Cherry Pie. This stuff does. not. budge. Perfect for a meal out, smooching or whatever else you’re gonna be doing this Valentines Day. Make sure you take a little bit of time to apply it the first time round, as a simple tissue will not remove any mistakes! It’s seriously indestructible.
Onto nails and I have to admit I’m quite the red nail polish collector, although I just chose two as we’d be here all day otherwise. My favourite one has to be Essie Aperitif, as it’s just the perfect cherry red. Applies smoothly in two coats and dries quickly too, what’s not to love? Next is a really bright red in the form of Topshop Collegiate. It’s not quite neon, but it really does give the cliche pop of colour to your nails!
So that’s all the red themed items I’ve been loving for this Valentines Day. My boyfriend and I don’t really celebrate it (at least not on the day, overpriced meals whaatt) but I shall be painting my nails red and slicking on some lipstick on the day nevertheless!
What red lipsticks or nail polishes are your favourite? Are you doing anything for Valentines Day?
