PERSONAL: How Blogging Has Helped Me

// Sorry to reuse a photo, I’m so busy with the house move!

I’ve been blogging for nearly three years now (well, in May) and I was having a think the other day about ways in which blogging has helped me. Of course it’s given me lots of opportunities and I’ve found some amazing brands and products I probably wouldn’t have before, but I wanted to go a bit deeper than that (ooh, how philosophical). It really has taught me more about myself than I thought it would, so I’ll get on with it shall I?

One: It’s Boosted My Confidence | Now, I don’t mean this infront of new people because I am still truly terrible and I think people think I’m a bitch or super weird, as I prefer to listen or I’ll throw out a load of word vomit. I mean in a way that I could stand in a crowded street and take outfit photos and it doesn’t bother me. It’s taught me to care a little less about the opinion of strangers and that I am truly my only critic and for that I am extremely grateful.

Two: It’s Made Me Learn New Skills | Before blogging, I would have looked at a DSLR in fear. The settings on a camera and the thought of changing a lens was something that would have scared me. I’m glad blogging has forced me into photography because I now enjoy faffing on with my camera and learning new things. Same with photoshop, really. I hadn’t used it previously, but now I couldn’t live without that beautiful little curves tool. It’s taught me a lot on the tech side of things and I’m glad I’ve learned a few extra skills!

Three: It’s Made Me Have A Better Work Ethic | I am quite a lazy person… I hit the snooze button about 10 times before getting up and I’d rather stay in the house than go out with people sometimes if I’m honest! But, blogging has forced me to have a bit more get up and go. I mean, no one makes me do it and it’s purely 100% my own effort, so I’m quite proud that I manage to get it all done and how organised I am with it all now!

Four: It’s Taught Me To Be Patient | The biggest thing anyone could ever teach you as a new blogger is that you won’t reach 10k followers overnight. Being patient and understanding that these things take time and effort will make your blogging experience a much better one I think. I do like to set little goals, but I won’t cry if I don’t reach them.

Five: It’s Helped Me Appreciate Other Bloggers More | When I used to read blogs (instead of writing one) I used to think it looked easy. Oh, how wrong I was! As soon as I started building up this blog, I fully realised how much work goes into those blogs I love and enjoy every time I open up my laptop. From their amazing content to their inspiring photography and all the way down to the way they put outfits together or compose beauty products. There’s a huge bunch of wonderful people online and doing my blog has helped me admire them more.

What has blogging taught you? Let me know below!
