Over the past few centuries, the world famous Royal Ascot races have become more than just a sporting event. It has also become quite the fashion event, with men and women putting on head-turning outfits in order to attend. From stylish dresses and elaborate hats through to formal suits and ties for the men, you’ll always see plenty of beautiful and eye-catching outfits when you head to these races in Berkshire.
This year could see one outfit that will make the others pale in comparison with the creation of a truly unique dress by bookies Coral. The bookies teamed up with designer Ben de Lisi, who has worked on designs for department store giant Debenhams. This is not the first time Coral has worked with Ben, as he also created a unique dress for Ascot in 2014 – a dress made out of two hundred Coral betting slips!
The 2015 Creation // If there is one thing that Ben de Lisi knows about it’s fashion, and he certainly knows how to create attention-grabbing dresses for events such as Royal Ascot. Royal Ascot is certain to be an exciting day for all who attend, not just because of the racing but because this event has turned into a veritable fashion show. Following on from the success of his betting slip dress for Coral last year, Ben is certain to create another stir at this year’s event with this latest creation.
This latest dress from Ben is inspired by jockeys’ silks, with a design based on riding gear and finished with a silk neck tie. It took around forty hours for the dress to be created and Ben stated that his design involved focusing on the colour blocking that is associated with jockeys silks. Like his other creation, this dress is bound to get plenty of attention both from those attending the event and from the media.
The betting slip dress that Ben created for Coral last year caused a stir at Royal Ascot in more ways than one. The outfit was modelled by Kristina Rihanoff of Strictly Come Dancing fame. However, Ascot regularly revises its dress codes and it seems that the betting slip dress was definitely not part of the dress code for 2014, resulting in Rihanoff being asked to change out of the outfit. Following the event, the dress was auctioned off along with the designs in order to raise money for the Injured Jockeys Fund.
