The races are always such a formal yet fun affair. Littered with celebrities and royalty alike, there’s always a huge range of styles, from the prim and proper to those who seem to be there on a sartorial dare.
With the Epsom Derby, and the ladies day hosted by Investec, happening just a few days ago on the 6th and 7th June, I wondered what I’d wear to the races. Even though there’s a strict dress code in some areas (which I’m not surprised about with the Queen visiting every year!) I’d love to wear something a bit different. So, here’s the lowdown on what I’d kit myself out in for the races…
The Outfit | Taking influence from the outfit above, I think it would be so pretty to wear something flowy, yet with a modern edge. I’d definitely look out for interesting materials like tulle or chiffon, mixed with things such as super soft cotton or even suede or cashmere. It would be way more chic than those straight up and down pencil dresses you see at the races every year!
The Accessories | I know a hat seems to be compulsory, but I think something a bit more subtle would look equally as beautiful. I’d opt for a clip style headpiece with feathers or silk or flower petals – something pretty that would tie in with the softness of the dress! Even taking a leaf from Chanel’s book and studding pearls in an up-do would look so pretty too! I’d go for either a simple box clutch bag or something bright and contrasty too! For shoes I’d probably opt for a classic black suede or leather heel as you can never go wrong!
The Makeup | With the dress being so simple, I’d probably go bright with my lip colour. A coral, red or rose pink would look gorgeous in contrast to a white dress and add a bit of interest to an otherwise neutral outfit. I’d go simple for the rest of the face, with a subtle cat-flick for my eyes, groomed brows and lots of mascara.
