This time of year brings a lot of festivities, parties, rich food and alcohol (if you drink, that is) and it takes a toll on our skin just as much as it does on our waistlines… Luckily, there’s some amazing skincare out there to help you prep your skin both before and after a heavy night or, you know, just eating loadsa food like me.

Let’s break it down into five simple steps which you can do twice a week to give your skin a boost:

Cleanse | The first part of every routine. I always use a more balmy cleanser as it has that whole luxurious spa feeling about it and works wondering to keep your skin in check. I love the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel as it feels like you’re giving your skin a treat and, after massaging it in for around one minute and removing with a face cloth, it leaves your complexion feeling silky smooth.

Exfoliate | An essential step to any party prep. Exfoliation removes all of the dead skin cells on the surface that’s just sitting there, clogging your pores and making your makeup look worse. Use something like the Elemis Elemis Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Gel Mask to buff away these dead skin cells in 5-10 minutes, revealing a smoother and more radiant complexion.

Detox | An must have if you’ve been out a lot over the Christmas period. Using a clay based (or charcoal, or similar) mask helps draw out all of the rubbish that’s just chillin’ in your pores and helps remove the congestion caused. I love using the Aesop Parsley Seed Cleansing Mask, as it goes to work in 10 minutes to make your skin look 10x fresher.

Rehydrate | Using both exfoliating and clay based masks can sometimes make your skin feel a bit dry. You can go straight in with step five, but I like to treat my skin with the Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask as, not only does it have anti-bacterial properties, but it plumps up the skin and makes it look like you’ve clearly had your 2ltrs of water a day…

Prep | The final stage of this five step skin reviving routine is prep. Now, you can use whichever serum you want, be it blemish control or whatever you choose, but opting for something such as Hydraluron can make a huge difference especially when you’re out drinking. Alcohol is dehydrating, so opting for a hydrating serum before your moisturiser (and by this, I mean it literally retains moisture in your skin by utilising hyaluronic acid) can help you in the long run!

What do you use to keep your skin in top partying condition?
