Six Wardrobe Essentials: If you’ve followed this blog for a while, you’ll know I’m big on staple pieces. Like, huge. I buy more staple bits and pieces than trend ones and the only pattern I actually own is a stripe, so that will tell you a lot about my sense of dress. I need simple pieces that fit together as I don’t like to put a lot of thought into my outfits, if that makes sense, as sleep is 10x more important. Everything has to be able to go with everything, ya feel me. So, I’ll be chatting about my six wardrobe essentials which all feature in this little outfit with links to my favourite pieces for each section.

A Belted Coat | I’ve built up a little collection of these now, from black to navy to grey, so I’ve got one for every look. There’s something so chic about a simple, well cut, belted coat that can totally transform an outfit I think. Whether you wear them alone or with a high neck jumper or draped with a leather jacket underneath, they’re definitely a must have.

Striped Top | Whether it’s a jumper or a top, stripes are my number one essential. I must have about six different ones in my wardrobe and no doubt I’ll buy more over the years. They just go with everything and I wear mine with simple jeans, or tucked into a leather skirt or under a blazer with trousers to smarten it up. This Warehouse one is both striped, jumped material, slightly flared sleeves and high neck so it’s basically perfect tbh.

Good Denim | I’ve probably mentioned before, but I’m a big fan of jeans. Like a massive, huge fan of denim. After years of being disappointed with high end denim, it was my job in a premium fashion store that lead me to try on the likes of 7 For All Mankind and J Brand and I haven’t looked back. They fit like a glove, don’t go out of shape or fade like some high street denim and I know they’ll last me years.

Oversized Shades | Now, you may not like the oversized look, but I do think a good pair of flattering sunglasses goes a long way. I tend to go for oversized and slightly cat eye, as they suit my face shape I think. These Dolce & Gabbana ones fit the bill nicely and I love the opaque look of them too.

Staple Loafers | I talked about loafers in my flat shoe edit, but I do think they’re key to a wardrobe. I braved wearing my Gucci ones, as they’re insanely slippy on the soles, for this outfit photo but I’m glad I did as they really transform even the most basic of outfits such as this into something a bit more special. In my opinion, anyway. 100% worth the investment.

A Leather Belt | I always wear a belt with jeans. There’s just something about the way it breaks up plain jeans and a top with a bit of leather and shiny hardware which makes them a total asset to my wardrobe. It’s like adding detail but in a subtle way and therefore a total staple. This Calvin Klein one is perfect for that, as the gold works with everything from blue denim to leather skinnies and the simple style really appeals to my minimal loving aesthetic.
